ABOUT ME

I am a visual artist working across painting, digital art and experimental visual forms. My practice explores questions of identity, memory and inner landscapes, often approaching the image as a space of transition rather than fixed representation. I move between figurative references and abstraction, and between the physical gesture of painting and the logic of the digital image, allowing both approaches to inform and challenge one another.

I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, in the class of Prof. Radoslav Tadić. During my studies, my primary focus was on colour, form and painterly structure. I developed a strong sensitivity to colour relationships and material presence, gradually moving towards abstract expression. This solid foundation in painting continues to shape my artistic thinking and visual language, regardless of the medium I work in.

Alongside my studio practice, I have a long-standing professional background in graphic and web design, with international recognition. Years of working in visual communication sharpened my understanding of composition, rhythm and visual hierarchy. This experience later informed my engagement with digital collage, which emerged organically as an extension of my artistic practice, rather than as a departure from painting. Digital processes became another way of exploring fragmentation, layering and reconstruction.

I am the founder of BOSNIART, one of the first online platforms dedicated to art and culture in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The platform was conceived as a space for visibility, dialogue and documentation of contemporary artistic practices, and was awarded Website of the Year (WebAward, Culture category) for its contribution to the cultural field.

In recent years, my focus has increasingly returned to painting-based projects, where I explore gesture, materiality and the influence of digital visual logic on contemporary perception. Through these works, I examine how images are formed, broken and reassembled in a visually saturated environment. My work has been presented in various exhibition contexts in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region, and I am the recipient of the Best Artwork Award, Ulqini ne telajo, Ulcinj (2019).

Alongside my artistic practice, I am actively engaged in the fields of culture, education and community work. Through long-term initiatives, workshops and collaborative projects, I develop practices situated at the intersection of contemporary art, social context and environmental awareness, with a strong emphasis on process, continuity and collective experience.

I live and work in Sarajevo.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work stems from expressive abstraction, and I have been continually fascinated by colour, gesture and painterly energy. I typically do not begin with a narrative or a fixed idea of what the image will be. For me, painting is a kind of no man’s land where emotion, rhythm and tension resonate through colour and form.

I consider abstraction as an open field — a place where the residues of landscape and portrait, along with inner states, can appear, fade away and return without ever becoming fully defined. These elements are not described or illustrated; they exist as impressions, allowing the image to remain open and unresolved.

My practice began with painting and later expanded into digital media. The years I spent working with composition and image structure shaped the way I think visually, and digital collage evolved naturally as an extension of that thinking. The digital does not supplant the painterly gesture, but instead provides a different surface where layering, fragmentation and colour can be explored and reworked through a contemporary visual logic.

Every painting is a voyage into the unfamiliar. I cherish experimentation and are oftentimes painting without a clear result in mind, thus allowing the development to be intuitive. Most of the work is driven by subconscious impulses that, gradually, take shape through the bodily movement, colour and idea of repeated intervention.

In my practice, which involves both painting and digital work, I strive to keep the equilibrium between control and spontaneity. Colour is still the main vehicle of expression, while form is kept fluid, unstable and sensitive, created through the gathering, interruption and revision.

Essentially, my work is about painting as an emotional and sensory experience one that is ambiguous in nature and, therefore, stays open to time, focus and individual interpretation.
